There are many types of spots, the most common ones are: freckles, age spots, hormonal spots (also known as butterfly spots or chloasma) and sun spots.
1. Freckles
Freckles are the most common surface spots. They are small, irregular, light brown spots in shape. Most of them appear in places that are easily exposed to the sun, such as the cheeks, bridge of the nose, neck, shoulders, back of hands, etc. The main cause of freckles is long-term exposure to ultraviolet light, which causes melanocytes in the epidermis to become overactive and enlarge, increasing the amount of melanin and forming spots. Therefore, the color of freckles will become darker in summer and will become lighter in winter. Since the pigment of freckles is relatively superficial, most of the pigment will form scabs after a day or two after laser treatment, and then slowly fall off. However, some pigments deposited in deeper locations require longer time for cells in the body to slowly phagocytose and remove them. Even if everyone suffers from freckles, the number of freckles and the depth of pigmentation are different for each person, but generally speaking, it is not difficult to deal with them. Be careful, the recurrence rate of freckles is very high. Even if they are completely removed, without good care and sun protection habits, the freckles will slowly grow back.
2. Age spots
Many people think that the spots that appear on the face of the elderly are age spots. In fact, there is a difference between real age spots and ordinary spots. Generally, the appearance of pigmented spots is smooth, but age spots are raised patches. Age spots, also known as seborrheic keratosis, are the same as other spots. They are affected by long-term ultraviolet rays, causing mutations in keratinocytes in the epidermis, and then accumulating too many immature keratinocytes in the cortex, causing skin problems. Patches with raised and rough surfaces appear. The color can be yellow, light brown or black, and the shape looks like plaques stuck to the surface of the skin.
3. Hormone spots (also known as butterfly spots or chloasma)
Pigmentation is common in middle-aged women (especially Asians). Its cause is related to hormonal changes in the body, so many women who have been pregnant will have this problem of spots. In appearance, they usually appear symmetrically on the cheeks on both sides in a butterfly shape, so they are also called butterfly spots. The color of butterfly spots is as dark brown as pig liver, and the borders are not obvious, so they are also called chloasma. Hormonal spots are one of the most difficult to treat among the many types of spots. In addition to being affected by ultraviolet rays, it is also affected by the patient's internal factors, such as stress, insomnia, physical decline, tension, worry, depression, etc. If you want to deal with hormonal spots, you need to fight for a long time. In addition to adequate sun protection, you must also maintain a cheerful mood and have a healthy lifestyle. They are indispensable.
4. Sun spots
Sun spots are shallow pigment spots and are directly related to long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays. After ultraviolet rays stimulate the skin, a large amount of melanin will be produced, and the pigment will accumulate under long-term exposure. Sun spots are mostly light brown or dark brown round or oval spots with average color and usually exist alone. Compared with freckles, sun spots are darker in color and larger in area. They are usually found on the side near the end of the eye or cheekbones, because these are the areas that are more frequently exposed to the sun.
